Durbin's Dream Act would give amnesty to thousands of illegal alien students

The U.S. Senate is considering legislation that would offer amnesty to thousands of students who entered the country before age 16 and who are illegal aliens. The "Dream Act" concept originally focused on allowing in-state tuition for illegals, but Sen. Richard Durbin (D-IL) said Thursday he would drop that element of his proposal to gain more support for the amnesty.

Groups opposed to amnesty, including U.S. Border Control, mounted fresh campaigns against the "Dream Act" as well as other immigration bills slated for consideration in the coming weeks.

Durbin said he intends to offer the federal legislation as an amendment to the annual defense spending bill. Under his proposal, anyone who entered the U.S. before age 16 and lived in the country at least five years and has a high school diploma could apply for amnesty. Over a six year period, the applicant would have to spend two years in college or in military service before becoming qualified for legal permanent residency and, ultimately, citizenship.

Those opposed to amnesty noted that no proof of arrival in the U.S. would be required. 'Any illegal can make a claim,' one man said. 'They are illegal. They don't have records. That is the rub here. So they will take advantage of an entire industry of falsified records. It could spell disaster.'

  1. What a load of crap. So the Senate fails to pass their comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill in the light, so instead they try to pass it by stealth?

Note that in addition to the amnesty here, the Senators are also trying to massively increase the H1B visa cap, which would essentially destroy the already beleaguered and wallowing domestic US tech industry. American tech graduates are simply too saddled by educational debt and costs of living to accept the piss-poor slave wages that imports from India get via the H1B.

The H1B already allows too many visas and should be gotten rid of-- increasing it further would only cause even more damage.

Note that among the big supporters of this treacherous Amendment is none other than Hillary Clinton. Well, well, well, Hillary Clinton committing treason against Americans-- no big surprise there. Exhibit # 150 on why Hillary must absolutely be defeated in 2008, our country depends on it.

OTOH, another big sponsor is Sam Brownback, which is a surprise. What a jerk.

  2. BTW, thanks for the legislative alert. I let my friends and work colleagues know about this as soon as I read it, and we'll all be contacting our representatives in Congress to firmly voice our opposition to this Amendment.

And we're gonna be tough at-- we will actively work to defeat and destroy any Senator or member of the House of Representatives who votes in favor of it. It's only that toughness and firmness that gets the results that we need.
