Must read letter from a disabled Vietnam Vet

My name is d'Lynn.  I'm a disabled Vietnam vet. I don't look too bad for a beat-up old fart, do I? And that's my ride. She's looking pretty good looking also, especially when you consider that she'll turn twenty this summer. That's right, it's a 1990 with a 1990 sidecar.

I can't ride a solo bike, ergo the sidecar rig. It's my sole means of transportation - rain or shine, snow or wind, and this summer also marks a milestone in both of our lives, as I will finally be able to pay her off.

Twenty years old?  What?  Why did it take so long? You weren't paying attention, were you? It's right at the beginning of this paragraph. I am a disabled vet, which means I receive a veterans administration disability pension, which also means "I'm broke!" Just one step ahead of being homeless every month, and that's not an idle statement or an "Oh, whoa is me" dire complaint. There’s a point to this, so hang in there a minute or two and read on.

There's a 25-year-old illegal immigrant woman living in Florida, with eight kids. Yes, eight "anchor babies" and she receives just shy of $1,500 per month per kid, plus medical, plus food stamps. Oh, wait. I've been informed that I shouldn't call them Food Stamps anymore.  That's not PC. It's all called “Social Assistance” now. You do the math on that yourself. I'd say that she was schooled early in how to make it in the system. Twenty-five years old, eight kids . . . . . yep, she started early.

You can whip out the calculator if you want, but this women who never has paid a dime in taxes of any kind, (and still doesn't – she's illegal,' remember?) is here in this country illegally. She hasn’t paid one one cent in medical for all the “anchor babies,” makes more in one month, legally, than I receive in over a year and a half in disability payments and I can't even get food stamps! Oops, I mean “Social Assistance.”

Technically I am eligible for “Social Assistance.” I was told it would be a walk through – a gimme – being disabled.  No problem, and in the very next breath I was also informed that under the law the amount I received in “Social Assistance” would be deducted from my disability pension.

Let's say I take a great photograph. It was just luck, a one of a kind accidental, in the right place at the right time shot. My local newspaper offers me fifty bucks to use the photo in a featured story. (I live in a small town and fifty bucks is all they could afford.) I have to report that fifty dollars to the VA as earned income, which will immediately be deducted from my next month’s disability check.

If I don't report it I’m in violation of federal law and technically they can stop my disability pension and prosecute me under a federal felony. Pretty cool, eh? For fifty bucks.

I see no point in dealing with two federal bureaucracies, so I don't bother. What's the point?

She's here illegally and with just one kid would make over twice what I receive per month. She has eight and she’s not a stand-out case.
She’s not alone. That's the way the system works. Millions of illegal immigrants know this, know how the system works and know how
to use it. (Haven't you seen the pamphlet? It's handed out all along our borders, "The Illegal Immigrants' Guide to Keeping America Just
The Way It Is.") and that's just the way it works.

Did you know that the federal government provides a “refugee” in this country with a monthly “stipend” of $1,890, plus $580 a month in “Social Assistance?” That’s $2,470 a month, tax-free. That's two and a half times what I’m allowed to receive as a disabled vet.

And just what did they do to earn this? All you have to do is show up on our collective doorstep, raise your right hand and swear that you're a refugee and, bingo, receive $30,000 a year, tax-free. That's more than someone making $15 an hour, and they have to pay taxes to boot!

Now, in defense of the Veterans Administration, they are doing what they can with what they've got. This is precious little compared to what they should have to get the job done. At least this country has a VA. It's the Senate that keeps passing laws, rules and guidelines, cutting their budget, denying requests for more staff and computer systems to handle the massive work flow. Their hands are tied by the very government that's supposed to give them what they need to get the job done, by the government you voted into office. Don't scream at the VA. I have. It's misguided anger.

The point to this “story?” Just why are you paying such high taxes to support this incredibly screwed-up government? Why? And I’m not proposing you stop paying your taxes. That's wrong. There are good programs and reasons to pay your taxes and support our government.

What am I proposing? It's quite simple. Vote.  The government, our government, is broken and we as the voters serve as the maintenance crew. We fix it . . . . . by voting.

If your state Senator has been in office more than two terms, vote 'em out at the next election. If your state representative has been in office more then two terms, vote 'em out of office. We put term limits on just about every publicly-elected official in the country except the House and Senate. Why? Believe me, they know this and love it! Ahhh - the power!

I don't care how much you believe your Senator or Representative is doing a good job. They're not!  Look at the government you have, that we have. How can you state they are doing what you want as the voter that put them there? How?  Vote them out of office. Do it.

Change the course of this country's history by what you are granted and guaranteed under the law. Vote! And if you have the guts, the anger, the outrage, start a petition in your state for a state-wide initiative to be placed on your next state ballot. Limiting the terms of office for your state senators and state representatives to your federal government to two terms.

The federal government will never pass such a law, but you can. You can get it done. You can force it. You can make it a law.  This is the first step in “getting it right.” Just vote. It's simple. It's easy, dammit!

This first step will send a very clear message. It’ll work. It’ill put “us” back in control of “them.” As it should be. As it was intended in the first place.

Are you an American? Born and raised? Then vote!

Side note: I sent this e-mail to a little over one hundred on my e-mail list. If you believe I’m wrong or misguided or you simply don't agree, that's fine. Go right ahead a delete this e-mail. No problem. Sorry to have bothered you. But if you think I just might have a worthwhile idea, something we can easily accomplish, something that could be a small part at getting this country back under “our” control, then please pass this along.

REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER

(editor's note: d'Lynn may be a disabled Vietnam Vet, but he is still on the front lines, fighting for the country he clearly loves)

  1. d'Lynn, I just wanted to say thank you. I admire everything you have done for this country and I agree with you 100 percent. I'm really, REALLY excited to be turning 18 in a couple months so I can vote this November.

  2. Verification, please.

Who is paying this woman (or anyone on welfare) $12,000 a month for each kid or $144,000 a year? What is the name of this women? What is the name of this Vietnam vet?

Why do I keep getting these e-mails that don't pass the smell test and make unsubstantiated claims about government that can't be verified?

I live in Oklahoma City. A lot of anti-government hate rhetoric was spread before the Oklahoma City bombing.

If, this is a true story, show me the proof, please.

  4. Unpaid costs for treating illegals has directly caused the closings of nearly 100 hospitals in California alone. Illegals consume nearly $69 BILLION in social services annually. Children of illegal immigrants cost public schools $28.6 Billion annually. Illegal immigrant labor depresses wages for American citizens by 200 BILLION a year. The cost of illegal immigration to the American taxpayer is $55,000 PER illegal. The total cost annually is over is a whopping $ 338.3 BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR

  5. I don't believe this story - like one poster says - prove it! Seems to me to be just more ant-immigrant rhetoric. If you want to go after some criminals go after the banksters that are REALLY robbing this country.

  6. Check it out on snopes.com Snopes agrees with it!

  7. Snopes DOES NOT agree with it! Type in "social assistance" on snopes.com and you will see that the $1890 + $580 mentioned for refugees surfaced in Canada as a complaint about Canadian assistance to refugees. And it wasnt accurate anyway!

I too did the math on an illegal immigrant getting $1500/month x 8 kids x 12 months. No, I do not believe that any illegal immigrant is getting $144,000 per year in taxpayer assistance.

  8. I don't think you did the math at all. I think you work for La Raza or MALDEF, and your job is to spread confusion and misinformation into the community.

Talking about banksters. C'mon. Illegal aliens cost this country billions every year. Go to the hospital emergency room and try to rationalize how illegals get free heath care while Americans get the door slammed in their face if they don't have insurance.

Go to welfare offices, public housing, school rooms. See the truth with your own eyes. Witness the deterioration of our educational system, our safety nets for America's poor; hospital shutdowns ... and then try to convince yourselves that illegal aliens should be here.

  9. This d'Lynn "letter" is a fake email that is full of fabrications that have been floating around the internet for several years now. Nice of someone to use the plight of Vietnam Vets to further their racist political agenda. Look up the facts people, then make informed decisions.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Hey jerk. It has NOTHING to do with racism. It is about national / personal security, management of resources and enforcing laws that were created for a reason.

  11. oh, and Snopes is owned and operated by bleeding heart liberals, why would I believe anything Snopes has to say about politics

  12. I'am also a Veteran, My God i put my life on the line for all AMERICANS,all over the world, What do I have to do now for my country to help protect there rights and future? just lay down my life, dreams, and expectation and died. If we let another 12,000,000 illegals just drain this nation dry many Vets will have another reason to fight and protect our boaders we can not let that happen.

  13. I'm still trying to figure out how a 25 year old managed to have 8 kids...you figure 9 months gestation time per child she must have been about 13 years old when she started having children and had a child per year since then. (Perhaps the government paid for in vitro fertilization since they are just throwing money at illegals) I'm having trouble believing this. I'm also having trouble believing the government is providing $1,500 per child each month?! Unheard of! I think this story is a bunch of crap propaganda created to generate hate. Yes, I don't like illegal immigrants taking advantage of Americans. But let's at least use some facts if we want people to support the cause...

    ReplyDelete
  14. I agree with some of the people here. This kinda pisses me off because this is just another way to keep the american people ignorant and misinformed about immigration. Common sense should tell you that there is no way anyone receives this amount of money on public assistance. Another misleading bit of information is that illegal immigrants don't pay taxes. Well actually most of them do . They cannot get tax refunds but taxes are taken out of their checks too. I'm sure there are some that don't just like a lot of americans don't. I read an article a few years ago that they contribute over millions of dollars in taxes. This is why they are still here. If they were not of any benefit to this country i'm 100% sure they would have been given the boot a long time ago. People need to educate themselves and don't believe everything you hear. The news will only report one side of the story to get people fired up.

  15. "oh, and Snopes is owned and operated by bleeding heart liberals, why would I believe anything Snopes has to say about politics "

this kills me. we ALL need to speak to fact, not make stuff up. Snopes or any other fact checking site needs to write up the 'why' something is false or true. based on my readings on Snopes it does just that. The SCARIEST thing for anyone to do is summarily dismiss something because it discredits something you WANT to believe in, regardless of its truth

  16. I smell bull shit, fifteen hundred a month per kid, times 8 kids, twelve times a year... My math says that woman is getting over two hundred thousand a year.... Not to mention all of the food stamps. Someone is trying to spread more hate mongering... No doubt we are taking care of illegals and we ought to take of our own first. The author of the email only goes by d'Lynn. Doesn't say where in Fla. If you can not get some sort of credible source from a email, it is no doubt a lie, fake and or something to inflame a already tense situation.
Granted, some would say why would he put his real name in the email? Well if you write a letter to the editor you do. It's called accountablity. Something most of these type of emails rarely do. Anybody can say whatever they want on the web and or be anyone they want on the web. But if they are sincere and willing to back what they say they put their name down on it and stand by it.

  17. Please check out GOOOH.com - Get Out Of Our House. This is a plan that will help our country.

  18. Can anyone verify if d'Lynn is a real person and did he compose the letter? I have gone to several spam websites and have not been able to locate this letter.

  19. The problem is: People who forward this kind of information don't want to research... they like the way the information reads, so they spread it.
We have to be self-policing when it comes to this stuff... When it comes to "Truth" we must be diligent.
Please don't quote something or believe it just because someone "blogged"it, or Emailed it to you with a photo attached...
    Thanks, Ghernest!

  20. The letter in question has been circulating on the Internet since at least as early as 2000. I was unable to find any sort of validity check which showed any information at all supporting the validity of the letter. I was able to checkwith some people I know through working with Medicaid systems what the support raqtes would be for the woamn described in Florida with the eight children. They stated that in their professional opinion with many years of service that $144,000/yr was not plausible unless the woamn in question waqs committing criminal fraud, taht that would not be the normal rate. There are prople who commit fraud against all sorts of government programs. Some are individuals, some are professionals such as doctors, and some are large corporations. Many federal contractors and beneficiaries get fined each year, many have to refund payments, and a certain number go to jail each year. The letter as written seems to imply that this woman is a typical recipient of federal funds. That does not match with any verifiable information I have been able to find on how much various social programs actually pay.

  21. IDIOTS!!! This is completely bogus and you guys are being made to look like reactionary fools. Do your homework on things like this, plenty of legit groups have disproved the info given. I say again, IDIOTS!!!

  22. The writer complains of the funds being distributed to the undeserving. The figures are questionable as cash in hand, but I wonder what the "total outlay" for a single child 0-to 18 is for the taxpayer? Like medical care, schooling, etc. It is regretable that people can "play" the system, but I find it more disturbing that we allow it.

Oh well. Soon we will have amnesty and all those menial low paying jobs that "Americans" won't do will be filled by "new citizens" who will contribute to Social Security and save the system! As a russian comedian was fond of saying "What a country!"

  23. Vietnam Vets do not lie when IT becomes losing your civil rights as Americans. Vietnam Vet's fight for you citizens to be free in America. When our government allows a Mexican president to attack Americans on the immigration law in Arizona were on the edge socialism in our country. La Raza is culprit for illegal's in our country with benefits housing and education grant's which is costing taxpayers billions for hispanic race. United States is on edge bankruptcy.Americans must rise before revolution is upon us.

  24. Anyone can say anything in an email. Until all of these propaganda tirades have authenticated proof, I'll just think they are politically motivated by Karl Rove, LOL!

  25. Wow, so may posts that seem to not believe that illegals cost this country money....that is crazy! They are here, they are working, NOT PAYING TAXES, GETTING HEALTH CARE, and SENDING THEIR KIDS TO SCHOOL....so how would anyone believe they aren't a burden on society? I'm not against immigrants, if they do it LEGALLY and work, instead of take advantage. I think the entire welfare system needs to be overhauled....in my community there are too many people, legal citizens even, who are young and able to work, but they choose to sit around and have stair step babies to keep drawing money. I'm NOT ok with my tax money providing assistance to people who are not legal and who CHOOSE to sit on their butt while I work my butt off!

    ReplyDelete
  26. so...perhaps this is incorrect info--but i did hear very recently that illegal immigrants who are working do have taxes withheld. it is a different kind of tax that will still protect their illegal status, what it's called escapes me now (sorry). but it does cost. however, what worries me is if the amount you make is correct or not, because if it is---there is a mistake. my husband gets va disability as well as social security as a disabled vet and, frankly, it is not enough to ever get rich with but it is definately enough to live on...?
oh, and i have a question for all of you that i can't seem to figure out...if we are in such a crisis (as we very TRULY ARE), why is our goverment still budgeting aid money for other countries? when it's own are not surviving, starving, not able to get basic health care, etc? i mean, what's with the 500 BILLION $$ that Hilary Clinton just promised in aid for another country? i am decidedly "middle class" and, you know what? i have been having to go to the food bank for christ's sake! i can't help others because i can't even help myself. it's very upsetting. does anyone else feel this way? does anyone disagree? and if so, why? i would truly like to hear all viewpoints...

    thanks!
